Well, we are here. The tow down went great and the weather has been fantastic- light winds and sunny days.
We have been fishing for a couple of days and let me just say, it’s the best we have seen at this time of year ever and all within a ten minute rip from the lodge. Sailor Rock into the Honey Hole has been holding thick schools of big bait. The better fishing has been from the low slack to a rising tide thus far. These fish are healthy and hungry, and bigger average size then we have seen in years past. Nigel landed a 36# this morning at the back end of the Honey Hole. These aggressive fish are biting a wide variety of tackle as well. A green UV flasher with an anchovy has been the most productive, but the fish have been hitting large Tomic spoons as well, #232 has been the best. This is probably due to the size of bait out there but the fish are also whacking the anchovy pretty hard.
In the evenings, again on a rising tide, Ryan’s Hole and Arnie’s Hole (know as good spots for flood tides) are piling up with bait and the fish are feeding pretty hard. They have been caught at our regular trolling depths of 37, 47 and 57 and a little shallower in Arnie’s Hole at 25′. Surprisingly, we are already catching some decent Coho as well, 6-8 pounds. This would lead us to believe that the salmon may be on an earlier then expected schedule this year. Water conditions are perfect cold and clear.
It’s an exciting start and we look forward to seeing our anglers come in on the 7th. Until then, we get them all to ourselves…ha! Keep checking for more regular updates in the next week for gear suggestions and fishing status.
