They just keep on coming! These massive hard fighting Chinook are in full force with 4 more over 30 pounds on this trip and one just about touching 40 pounds. There are plenty of mid to high 20’s to go around for huge running strong Chinook. We are catching them at some of our favourite spots – Sailor Rock, Honey Hole, Noble Hill, and #5. These spots have been so good to us over the years. We’re running pretty much at the same depths that we are used to, anywhere from 47 feet deep to 67 feet. The majority of these big Chinook are attacking anchovies hard, in a few hot teaser heads such as Joanne, Halloween Candy, Speckle Back, and the Lodge UV green following behind white, green glow, or double glow black flashers. The Tomic spoon #232 has also been working great all by itself with no flasher needed. The Cohos are still sticking around the top end of the island, using almost any hoochie behind a flasher to fill your limits. Halibut are out there as well. There are a few on this trip that are over 50 pounds and most everyone has had at least one perfect under sized Halibut on the board. With such great Chinook fishing people are not spending much time bouncing bottom. They are looking for something to beat out that 50 pound Chinook caught a few days back. Looking forward to seeing you on the water with bent poles and screaming lines.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Dean Setoguchi on winning the June Catch and Release Derby with a beautiful 32 pounder, which was his first Tyee he has ever caught. I guess we will see him next year as he just earned a free trip for 2020. Also a big thank you to the multiple entrants over the month of June. We will keep you posted on how July turns out over the next few weeks. Check us out on Instagram @northkinglodge
